- Are you a victim of cyber-bullying, online harassment or trolling?
- Are you the target of negative or malicious social media posts, comments or blogs or a hate campaign?
- Have you received threatening, offensive or indecent emails, texts and/or letters from a known or unknown individual?
Stopping harassment
If you have been caused distress or alarm by social media or online posts or emails, or other unwanted conduct, then we understand that this is likely to be a very challenging and upsetting time. We can advise you on the legal options available to you and, depending on the circumstances, we may be able to obtain a Court order on your behalf to stop the offensive behaviour and/or to identify the perpetrator if unknown. We may also be able to obtain damages to compensate you for anxiety and financial loss. We can also seek removal of offending postings from social media platforms and Search Engine results.
We can also advise whether a criminal offence may have been committed and make representations to the Police and/or the CPS if appropriate.
If you’ve been affected by online abuse, for confidential support with mental health or suicidal feelings, you can contact The Samaritans on their free, 24-hour phone support by calling 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org
